Lesson 160 of science

This week we learned about compasses and how to use them. A compass only points to magnetic north, not true north. A bearing is a direction in degrees. Instead of saying go east or south you would say something like follow a bearing of 30°. To use baring, find your location on the map. Then, set the compass on your map so the straight side of the base plate is lined up with your location. After, find your destination you want to go to and line up the destination and the location you are at. Then, turn the bezel till the orienting lns is lined up to the north and south. Look at the index line that you just captured. Now rotate your whole body until the north side of the needle is inside the orienting arrow.
